The finals of the Big Bash got underway overnight where the Sydney Thunder proved far too strong for the Hobart Hurricanes eliminating the Canes from the competition.
Tonight we see the Melbourne Stars taking on the Sydney Sixers in what shapes as a great contest.
To this point the Sixers have been best backed firming in to $1.88 while the Stars have drifted out to $1.95.
I can’t help but be seduced by the quality of player the Sixers have introduced since International duties have ceased.
To bring in Steve Smith, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood is a significant advantage and while the Stars get the bonus of Zampa and Handscomb back in I think the Sixers are benefited the most.
I am backing the Sixers to win and will take them in a multi with the Adelaide Strikers who take on Hobart on Saturday. The multi is paying $3.
In novelty plays I can’t go past Steve Smith to be the leading runscorer for the Sixers at $3 while I am leaning towards Maxwell at the value to be the leading runscorer for the Stars at $3.50 with obvious respect for Stoinis at $2.75.
Alex Hales is in sparkling form for the Thunder and I am backing him to be the leading runscorer for the Thunder in the Saturday match at $3.00.
The Perth Wildcats are at home to the league leading Sydney Kings on Saturday night in what could be a Grand Final Preview.
With the aid of the home court advantage the Wildcats are the $1.50 favourites with the Kings paying $2.65.
There has been good support for the Cats to both win as well as at the line which is now out to -4.5 points. I’m happy to back the Cats to win by 5 points or more at the $1.91 and will have my standard specks on them to win big 11 or more at $3 and 17 points or more at $6.50.
The Perth Glory are in a rich vein of form and they look the goods when taking on the Melbourne Victory at home this weekend.
I’ll take the $1.65 being offered about the Glory in a multi with Sydney FC which is paying $2.47.
My Premier League multi for this week requires Newcastle United, Manchester City and Liverpool to all prevail this round. The multi quote is $4.21.
AUSTRALIAN OPEN TENNIS
I fancy Garbine Muguruza to win the Women’s final while Novak Djokovic looks likely to take out the Men’s final. The multi is $1.95.
The San Francisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs in this year’s Suberbowl on Monday.
I will be backing the Chiefs at $1.80 to prevail.
My best racing bets of the weekend are as follows :
Caulfield Saturday Race 3 Number 4 High Bridge (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $2.15) : Veteran stayer who jogged in last start at Flemington over the 2520 metres. The ease of that last start victory would suggest the old boy is set for a purple patch of form. Looks awfully hard to beat.
Caulfield Saturday Race 7 Number 1 Super Seth (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $4.40) : Star three year old who is the only galloper to have claimed the scalp of gun galloper Alligator Blood who he defeated at his most recent start which was in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas. Has won both of his first up starts in the past and is class with a capital c. The clear danger is Dalasan who is the favourite and they look the logical Quinella play.
Randwick Saturday Race 5 Number 8 Subpoenaed (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $2.25) : Has looked a million dollars at both of her recent two trials and has shown in her limited career to this point that she is well above average. Has finished 1st and 2nd at her two previous fresh runs and she has been truckloaded by the punters since the fixed odds markets opened. Should get the cash.
Ascot Saturday Race 8 Number 12 Lipstick Flickers (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $5) : Quality mare who doesn’t know how to run a bad race and is a specialist over this distance where she has had 6 tries for 2 wins and 4 placings. Drawn to get a soft run from barrier three and looks a great value each way play at the $5.
Cannington Saturday Race 7 Number 1 Starlight Yoyo (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price Not Available) : Star local who has had 47 starts for 24 wins and 10 placings. Likely to relish being drawn on the fence and looks the goods. Other nice plays on the program look to be 2-4 Zack Monelli, 3-1 Dyna Dean each way at odds, 5-4 Snazzy Whompo each way at odds, 6-2 Tommy Shelby and 8-2 Quara’s Xavier.
