Here are this week’s top tips on all things sport and racing
December 13, 2019 The Ashby

Australia have dominated the first day and a bit of the first Test at Optus Stadium with Marnus Labuschagne stealing the show with a polished 143.

Heading towards Lunch on day 2 Australia were in a commanding position at 5/304.

While New Zealand will offer good competition to Australia I expect the Aussies to continue to dominate and keep winning throughout the remainder of the series.

Kane Williamson is the key with the bat for New Zealand and I expect him to score well while BJ Watling is the premier keeper-batsman in world cricket at the moment and he is capable of proving a thorn in the side of Australia.

The Big Bash gets underway on Tuesday with the Brisbane Heat taking on the Sydney Thunder in the tournament opener.

I have run my eyes over some of the series bet options and I am confident we can make some dollars out of this year’s Big Bash.

In Most Runs markets for their respective teams I am very keen on 4 players.

All four of these players either open or bat 3 so they will receive plenty of opportunities to bat for large periods of games and all four of them are currently not likely to be called up for national duties which will mean they play pretty much all of the games available for their teams.

The first of them is Shaun Marsh most runs Renegades at $2.50. Shaun has a phenomenal record in the Big Bash and for the first time ever will be available all tournament. Should score heavily.

Chris Lynn most runs Heat at $2 looks a lock. When he gets going he scores heavily quickly and no one else in their side can match him for firepower.

Usman Khawaja most run Thunder has been heavily backed and is now in to $1.70  but again he has a huge class edge on the rest of their roster.

The fourth of them is Dárcy Short who has been heavily backed in to $1.67 to be the leading run scorer for the Hurricanes – history shows that is very likely to occur again here.

If you multi the 4 together the price is a juicy $14.19.

I have also backed Shaun Marsh to be the leading runscorer for the tournament at $9 and had a small saver on Short at $7.50.

In Player of the Tournament betting I have also backed Marsh at $11.

The Perth Wildcats have been on a tear winning their last three straight games and they look likely to take care of business against Brisbane on Saturday night.

They are warm favourites at $1.30 while the line sits at -7.5 points. I will be backing the Wildcats to cover that line and win by 8 points or more at $1.91 and to win convincingly by 15 plus at $3.50, 20 plus at $6.50 and 30 plus at $21.

The Perth Glory finally returned to the winner’s list last weekend and they are favoured to do so again on Saturday when at home to Western Sydney.

I’ll take a multi with the Glory to win in to Sydney FC to win which is paying $2.23.

My EPL multi for this week requires Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Leicester to all prevail this round. The multi quote is $3.09.

My best racing bets of the weekend are as follows :

Flemington Saturday Race 7 Number 2 Defibrillate  (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $2.80) : Won four races in a row prior to being defeated by a narrow margin last time out when runner-up behind Creedence. Trainer Patty Payne has been having a tremendous run of late and this fellow simply knows how to win. Should take all the beating.

Randwick  Saturday Race 1 Number 4 Seasons (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $6) : Classy mare who has had 7 career starts for 3 wins and 3 seconds. Wasn’t far away when unplaced at her first run back from a break and she should improve sharply here. Loves racing over this trip where she has had 4 tries for 3 wins and a second. Great each way value.

Eagle Farm Saturday Race 5 Number 1 The Candy Man (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $2.50) : Quality campaigner who has won 8 of his 19 career starts and has won all three of his starts over this distance of 1800 metres. Is backing up after running third behind Niccanova last week. Looks to have a class edge here.

Ascot Saturday Race 5 Number 6 Friar’s Fantasia (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $4.40) : Building towards a victory with a placing in the Westspeed Final here over 1400 metres here last start. Has drawn beautifully to get a soft run from barrier three and has the services of talented hoop Joe Azzopardi. Looks ready to peak.

Mandurah Friday Race 5 Number 1 Westdale Ares (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price Not Available) : Got the cash as our best bet last week and ran the best of night time in the process. Again comes up with box one where he has had 4 starts for 4 wins. Other nice bets on the program look to be 2-1 Quara’s Xavier, 5-3 First Rule each way and 8-8 Rolo Monelli.
