NBL

The Perth Wildcats scraped home against an undermanned Melbourne United outfit last weekend and while I was expecting them to win by a bigger margin they did overcome a significant deficit late in the match to prevail.

I liked what I saw late in the match and I think they can go on with the job off that victory.

They take on Illawarra at home tonight and the Wildcats have been heavily backed in head to head betting firming from $1.34 into $1.24 while the Hawks have drifted out to $4.

It is a similar story in Line betting where the support has been all for the Wildcats to cover – it has shifted from -5.5 points to -8.5 points.

I am happy to include the Wildcats in some multis this weekend and will be backing them to cover the line and win by 9 points or more at the $1.90.

My NBL multi for the weekend is Brisbane to beat Cairns, Perth to win by 9 points or more and Sydney to beat Adelaide. The multi price is $3.43.

A-LEAGUE

The A-League gets underway for another season and the Perth Glory will be looking to go one better after losing the Grand Final in a penalty shootout last season.

They kick off their campaign at home against the Brisbane Roar on Sunday and have been well backed to start their season with a victory.

All reports are that Tony Popovic has put the squad through another gruelling pre-season and the players are hungry to go one better than last season.

Perth put together a formidable record on their home turf last season and I expect that trend to continue this time around.

While the price of $1.66 is a touch short I will use it in a few multis this weekend.

My A-League multi is Western Sydney to defeat Central Coast into the Glory to beat Brisbane. The multi price is $2.73.

RACING

My best bets of the weekend are as follows :

Caulfield Saturday Race 3 Number 6 California Zimbol  (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $3.40) : Impressive last start winner in a Benchmark 78 race at Canterbury at her first run back from a break and she looks to be in for a very nice preparation. In good hands with the Snowdens and looks to be getting better with each run. The clear danger is the favourite Loving Gaby and they look the likely quinella in this race.

Caulfield Saturday Race 6 Number 3 Flit (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $2.25) : Quality filly who was runner up in the Silver Shadow over 1200 metres and looks ideally suited by the step up to the mile here. Had no luck last time out when never saw daylight in the Tranquil Star and this looks an ideal assignment. Hugh Bowman should get a lovely run from barrier two and present her at the business end of proceedings with a kick.

Randwick Saturday Race 2 Number 12 Master of Wine (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $3.00) : Placed at both runs back from a spell and should be cherry ripe third up into this. Steps up to 2000 metres which is the sort of distance range where this fellow should start to fire. Is in well with just 53.5 kilograms and should be hard to hold out late.

Ascot Saturday Race 6 Number 1 Alpha Sky (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $6.00) : Returned from a break with a brave second over 1200 metres at Belmont where he was run down late after giving a great sight up front. Is 2 for 2 at Ascot over the 1400 metres and should have derived benefit for the first up run. The Velvet King is the logical danger but at the price I am happy to be with Alpha Sky each way.

Cannington Saturday Race 10 Number 8 Who’s Got Cash (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price Not Available) : Bolted in again last start and currently there is no hotter dog in WA – absolutely flying. Other nice bets on the card look to be 11-3 Smurf and on an each way basis race 5 number 3 Back On Lava.
